• I feel like many people here view rap music the same way they view popular music- with utter contempt for the meaning (or lack thereof).

    However could be maybe because the rap that people often hear today IS popular music? People (myself included) say you have to dig for good rock bands out today- wouldn't you have to do the same for rap music?

    Clearly popular music of any genre is not good, but does that mean all of it is bad?


  • No, the problem is that it is mostly nasty and tuneless music for people with so little self-esteem they don't even feel they deserve to hear good tunes.
    And how snootily elitist to suggest that only bad music can be popular - not true.
    Once in a while one does hear a witty or interesting rhyme set to a great groove, but there is precious little compared to the junk rap out there.

  • i admit there are a few good rap songs but a majority of it is $hit... it is all about dealing drugs and hooking up w/ wh0res, and it gives me a head ache.


  • Who cares if rap gets bashed and I would know cuz of experience the only rap that i listen to is rap metal like Rage Against The Machine! And well it is a bad influence to young kids...i listen to Metal and in no way is that offensive it makes you stronger and it gives you something you've never had! Rap is all porn,killing,talking about how some homeboys will come after you with pistols...bottom like rap sucks!!


  • I can't stand rap. That's all I hear around here blasting out shaking the house. Just a bunch of loud noisy crap. Ignorant morons can't seem to have any respect for anyone else. keeping the "music" blowing out while they stand there trying to talk.

    its popular, because record companies do push bands to make music simple because simple minds and music that are very easy to sell.

    i don't listen to rap, at all. i can hear in my neighborhood when some idiot turns on his stereo car with uncomprehesive rap songs. then i just close my door, or walk away.

    people listen whatever they like only because they don't know ANYTHING BETTER, or just lazy to do music research and find and listen to some other genres of music and bands.

    no most stuff i'd heard wasn't even played on radio, guys downloading them from the net Ex: youtube.

    RAP became popular same as poptart that's why rap going to down to a drain.

  • Yes you're definitely right. I think most people in this forum (and most people who just don't like rap) automatically assume that everyone that listens to rap wears baggy jeans and clothes, uses lots of slang, wears lots of bling and grillz, etc. So far, I haven't heard any popular music in any genre that I like. I think there's something wrong with people who judge what kind of music they like by what everyone else says. They need to learn to think for themselves. Ok, I'm done ranting.


  • well they only listen to mainstream 50 cent rap.
    that is why they don't see the good.

    But most people like to hear singing not a one tone voice.


    but if you ask people in the rap forum they will surely answer differently
